Managing Azure Connections

Microsoft’s cloud platform offers a comprehensive suite of scalable services in robust computing, analytics and storage solutions, empowering businesses with a secure, flexible cloud environment for diverse applications. The Azure Connector in Flexera One enables you to securely collect and import inventory data from your Azure accounts into IT Visibility on a scheduled basis. This integration gives you comprehensive visibility into your Azure environment, including compute, storage, and database resources. By leveraging the Azure Connector, you can streamline cloud management, optimize resource utilization, and ensure consistent governance across your Azure estate.

Prerequisites

To view and manage Azure connectors, you must have one of the following permissions in Flexera One:

  • Manage data inventory

  • Manage organization

Creating an Azure Connection

You can create one or more Azure connections.

tip

When you create an Azure Connection using an Azure tenant, all member subscriptions under that tenant will be automatically linked. There is no option to exclude specific subscriptions during onboarding. Any new subscriptions added to the tenant in the future will also be linked automatically.

You can view the list of all the subscriptions linked to an Azure tenant on the Linked Accounts tab when you view details of that connection.

  1. On the Data Collection menu, under Common Inventory Tasks, select External Inventory Connections.

  2. Do one of the following:

    • On the Cloud Connections tab, select Create Connection.

    • On the Explore Connectors tab and in the Azure tile, select Create Connection.

  3. In Create Connection, do the following:

    1. From Connection Type, select Azure.

    2. Select Login to your Azure account and sign in to Azure in a new web browser tab.

    3. In Azure Billing Account, enter the Azure billing Account ID for the account you are onboarding.

    4. In Tenant ID, enter your tenant ID.

    5. In Location, select the Azure region where deployment data will be stored. Note that the Azure tenant's subscription must have access to this location.

    6. In Display Name, enter a name for the connection.

    7. Select the features you are onboarding for:

      • To enable inventory collection and reporting from Azure, for example, in Power BI or via GraphQL, select Inventory. For more information, see Cloud Inventory Overview
    8. Select Download Credentials File.

    9. Copy the script, run the script in Azure CLI, and then select I have run the command in Azure CLI.

    10. Select Complete.

  4. On the External Inventory Connections page, select the Cloud Connections tab and verify that the new Azure connection appears in the list.

Editing an Azure Connection

You can change the Display Name of an existing connection.

note

If you onboarded using the API, you can edit the Name and Product of an existing connection directly in the Flexera One user interface, but you cannot change the permissions defined in your role in the user interface.

  1. On the Data Collection menu, under Common Inventory Tasks, select External Inventory Connections.

  2. On the Cloud Connections tab, find the connection that you want to edit.

  3. Do one of the following:

    • Select the three-dot menu in the connection row and select Edit.

    • Select the connection name to open the Details view of that connection, and select Edit in the upper-right corner of the page.

  4. In Edit Connection, do the following:

    1. Select Login to your Azure account and sign in to Azure in a new web browser tab.

    2. In Display Name, edit the name for the connection.

    3. Select Download Credentials File.

    4. Copy the script, run the script in Azure CLI, and then select I have run the command in Azure CLI.

    5. Select Save.

Deleting an Azure Connection

You can delete an existing Azure Connection. The deletion action cannot be undone.

note

If you onboarded using the API, deleting the connection will only remove your credentials and schedule from Flexera One; the role itself will remain in your Azure account.

  1. On the Data Collection menu, under Common Inventory Tasks, select External Inventory Connections.

  2. On the Cloud Connections tab, find the connection that you want to delete.

  3. Do one of the following:

    • Select the three-dot menu in the connection row and select Delete.

    • Select the connection name to open the Details view of that connection, and select Delete in the upper-right corner of the page.

  4. In Delete Connection, do the following:

    1. Select Login to your Azure account and sign in to Azure in a new web browser tab.

    2. Select Download Credentials File.

    3. Copy the script, run the script in Azure CLI, and then select I have run the command in Azure CLI.
