Inventory Only Actions

You should create an Inventory only action when you want the discovery and inventory rule to collect inventory from devices that have been discovered already. This option is more efficient in gathering services inventory as you do not need to ping sweep the entire network before collecting device and service inventory. The following are some example use cases for Inventory only actions:

• You need to gather VMware inventory from all computers already discovered in a particular subnet. You can specify the subnet in the target definition, and use the Gather hardware and software inventory from all target devices and Gather VMware infrastructure inventory, with advanced recognition of VMware applications option in the action definition.

• You need to gather Oracle Database and Oracle VM inventory from already discovered devices in a particular subnet. You can specify the subnet in the target definition, and use the Gather hardware and software inventory from all target devices, Gather Oracle VM infrastructure inventory, and Gather Oracle database environment inventory options in the action definition.

  To use this feature, Flexera recommends upgrading all your parent and child inventory beacons which would enable export of the discovery information from IT Asset Management to the inventory beacons.

Inventory tasks

The expandable areas (sometimes called accordion folds) in this section display controls to manage collection of inventory, with the controls grouped under the types of data that can be collected.

General hardware and software inventory	Gather hardware and software inventory from all target devices	Enables IT Asset Management to collect hardware and software inventory through the applicable inventory beacon. Note: If you want to adopt devices when the discovery and inventory rule associated with this action runs, at least one of the inventory-gathering options on this page must be selected. (For details about adoption, see Creating a Target.) With this option selected, IT Asset Management automatically collects SQL Server and Hyper-V inventory.
VMware infrastructure	Gather VMware infrastructure inventory, with advanced recognition of VMware applications	Enables IT Asset Management to collect VMware infrastructure inventory through the FlexNet Inventory Agent. The VMware inventory works if you: Specify the port numbers used in your VMware infrastructure. Select the Gather VMware infrastructure inventory, with advanced recognition of VMware applications option. It does not require that you have licensed the FlexNet Manager for VMware product. However, be aware that recognition of VMware applications (application name, version, and edition) works only when you have this product licensed.
Oracle VM infrastructure	Gather Oracle VM infrastructure inventory	Enables IT Asset Management to collect Oracle VM infrastructure inventory.
Microsoft Hyper-V	Gather Microsoft Hyper-V hardware and software inventory	Enables IT Asset Management to collect Microsoft Hyper-V infrastructure inventory.
Citrix Xen Desktop environments	Gather Citrix XenDesktop environment inventory	Enables IT Asset Management to collect Citrix Virtual Desktops inventory. Each inventory beacon looks for Citrix Virtual Desktops broker on the target devices within its subnet and collects the Citrix Virtual Desktops inventory through that.
Oracle database environments	Gather Oracle database environment inventory	Enables IT Asset Management to collect Oracle inventory by establishing a direct connection to Oracle databases using details from any of the following discovery methods: Network scan TNSNames file Previously discovered devices, including both manually-created discovered device records, and devices created automatically by the Amazon connector for Oracle Database installations running in Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS). For direct gathering of Oracle inventory by an inventory beacon, you need to configure a specific database user on the target Oracle Database server. This account must be a member of the OS-specific ORADBA group; have at least read access to all necessary database tables; and be registered in the Password Manager on the appropriate inventory beacon. Also, the listener password must be recorded in the Password Manager on the appropriate inventory beacon when all of the following conditions apply (and is not otherwise required, for example not required for Amazon RDS): The Oracle Database version is earlier than 12c The listener actually has a password You have selected the Network scan method for device discovery. Microsoft SQL Server	Gather Microsoft SQL Server hardware and software inventory	Enables IT Asset Management to collect Microsoft SQL Server inventory. This feature requires that you have licensed the FlexNet Manager for Datacenters product.
