Installed Applications Page

This page lists all of the installed applications recognized during the last inventory import. Recognition means that evidence linked to the application record was found on at least one device within your enterprise.

From this page, you can:

• Create a new application record for something discovered in your enterprise (see Adding an Application)

• Create a license for any application selected from the list (see Creating a License)

• Change the management status of any selected application(s) (see Changing the Status of an Application)

• Set the status of the Import detailed evidence flag for any selected application(s) (see Setting the status of the Import detailed evidence flag)

• Navigate to the properties of an application, either by clicking its name in the listing, or by selecting it and clicking Open (see Application Properties)

• Delete a Local application record (see Deleting an Application Record)

• Resolve cases where the evidence for multiple applications overlaps (see Resolving the Application's Overlapping Evidence Alerts).

The following columns (listed alphabetically) are available in this list. By default, some columns are available in the column chooser (see Managing Columns in a Table). The Save view as feature of IT Asset Management enables you to create customized management views of a page by saving the applied user interface settings. For more information, see Creating Saved Views.

Any custom properties that you have added for this object are also available through the column chooser. Like other properties, you can also use these properties for filtering and grouping records on this page.

Column name	Notes
Category	The broad function of the application, by default from the UN Standard Products and Services Code. For local applications, this field is editable in the General tab of the application properties. (Additional custom categories can be created in the IT Asset Categories page.)
Classification	The type of software, especially as it relates to licensing (freeware, commercial, component, and so on). Visible on the General tab of the application properties. It is editable only for applications with a Source value of Local.
Containers	The count of installations of this application installed in containers. Note: This is a subset of the total count displayed in the Installed column.
Edition	The edition of an application, as specified by the publisher of this application. Note: Many applications do not specify an edition. Visible on the General tab of the application properties. It is editable only for applications with a Source value of Local.
End of extended support	The date when the publisher ceases the extended period to support this version and edition of the product in any way. For locally-created applications, editable in the General tab of the application properties. For application records downloaded in the Application Recognition Library, any available value of this field is populated by the Application Recognition Library, and is not editable.
End of life	The date that marks the end of the lifespan for this software application. After this date, the publisher would no longer be selling, sustaining, and supporting this application. For locally-created applications, editable in the General tab of the application properties. For application records downloaded in the Application Recognition Library (ARL), any available value of this field is populated by the ARL, and is not editable.
End of sales	The date after which you cannot purchase this software application directly from its publisher or through the direct sales channel. For locally-created applications, editable in the General tab of the application properties. For application records downloaded in the Application Recognition Library, any available value of this field is populated by the Application Recognition Library, and is not editable.
End of support	The date when the publisher ceases to fully support this version and edition of the product. For locally-created applications, editable in the General tab of the application properties. For application records downloaded in the Application Recognition Library (ARL), any available value of this field is populated by the ARL, and is not editable.
Evidence capability	Most application evidence is used to identify whether an application is installed on a device. Some evidence may identify whether the application was accessed by a user. This column identifies the kinds of evidence so far linked to the application, with the following values: Installation Access Installation and Access: here is evidence available for either purpose, or both. None: The application has not been linked to any evidence records (by default, there is also an alert displayed on the application name highlighting the same shortcoming). You should try to remedy this situation, as without evidence, consumption for any license linked to this application cannot be calculated. Not editable.
Flexera ID	A generated code that uniquely identifies all application records, and may be used for integration between products from Flexera. All application records (including those created locally) include a Flexera ID starting with the following text: ARL = arl:// Local = app:// This data is read-only.
Installed	The count of installations of this application, calculated from evidence matched in the last imported inventory. This includes the count of installations in containers. Tip: This is the count of installations in Active inventory devices. In other words, this count excludes any installations on inventory devices for which the Status has been set to Ignored (either manually in the General tab of the inventory device properties, or automatically because the inventory device is linked to an asset that is either Disposed or Retired). Counts do not match the evidence. A figure in the Installed column might differ from evidence match counts because more than one piece of evidence may link to a single application. This might happen for applications with multiple installed components (leading to multiple installed evidence matches). For example, if an application is installed as three different components, each generating file evidence, the evidence match count would be three, but the Installed count would be resolved to one. Counts do not match the license. The Installed count for an application might differ from the consumption for its associated license for either of these reasons: If an application is linked to more than one license, the Installed count includes the installations associated with all related licenses. Multiple application installations can count as a single entitlement, for example when an application with a user-based license is used by one user on multiple computers Installations of applications installed in containers are not used in license consumption calculations. Not editable. The installed count is recalculated after each inventory import. Access right restrictions: The Installed column counts only the installations on inventory devices that you have the right to view.
Is locked	Represents the ability to edit the application, based on its source. Displays Yes if the Source of this application is Flexera or Flexera (Extended), and otherwise displays No. Not editable.
Licensed	This column indicates whether an installed application is linked to at least one license (either Yes or No is displayed). Editable in the Licenses tab of the application's properties.
Name	The application's name, which may be: Set by the Application Recognition Library, and not editable (for applications with Source: Flexera) Derived from the evidence values for Product, Version, and Edition properties (when generated by IT Asset Management), and editable to suit your corporate standards. Tip: You can edit this on the General tab of the application properties when Local is displayed in the Source column (which means the application was added manually by an operator).
Product	The basic name of the application, excluding the publisher and references to versions or editions. This field displays the value Multiple products for multi-product licenses that have multiple primary products. See Multi-Product License. Tip: You can edit this on the General tab of the application properties when Local is displayed in the Source column (which means the application was added manually by an operator).
Publisher	The name of the publisher of this software, responsible for its development and distribution. Tip: You can edit this on the General tab of the application properties when Local is displayed in the Source column (which means the application was added manually by an operator).
Release date	The date when the application was made available to the customers. For locally-created applications, editable in the General tab of the application properties. For application records downloaded in the Application Recognition Library, any available value of this field is populated by the ARL, and is not editable.
Source	The origin of an application record: Flexera: Shown when the application is downloaded in Application Recognition Library (if so, you cannot edit any of the application's properties, but can link it to additional evidence). Local: Shown when an operator in your enterprise created the record for this application. Flexera (Extended): Shown when an operator added additional evidence to the original record from Application Recognition Library.
Start of life	The date on which this software application started its operational life. In most cases, it is the date when the alpha or beta version (varies among publishers) of the application was released. For locally-created applications, editable in the General tab of the application properties. For application records downloaded in the Application Recognition Library (ARL), any available value of this field is populated by the ARL, and is not editable.
Status	Indicates your assessment and processing of an application. It can have any of the following values: Authorized, Deferred, Ignored, Inactive, Unmanaged. Authorized: Installation of this application is allowed on computers in your enterprise. If the application is also associated with a license, those installations can be reviewed to determine if they comply with the license terms and conditions. Deferred: You intend to manage this application in due course, but not now. This status is intended to be a temporary state that you will change later. Since it is an administrative convenience only, installations of these applications still count for license consumption. Ignored: Flags this application as irrelevant for software asset management. While you can recover an application from this state at any time, this status, unlike Deferred, is generally applied only to those applications that you do not intend to manage at all (for example, shareware that you permit, but choose not to manage closely). Tip: Although you may choose not to manage an ignored application, it may still be licensable. For this reason, an ignored application is not exempted from license consumption calculations. To remove an application from license consumption calculations, either: - Disconnect the application from all licenses - In the General tab of properties for the evidence that identifies the application, set Ignored to Yes (first check that this same evidence does not also link to a different application that should still be included in compliance calculations). Inactive: IT Asset Management assigns this status to applications recorded in the Application Recognition Library, but not yet recognized as installed within your enterprise. Unauthorized: Apply this to flag applications that should not be installed on computers in your enterprise. It is best practice to uninstall such applications. Unmanaged: A new application identified in your enterprise, but not yet assigned any of the above status values. Tip: If you do not have the time to process the new records, you can assign the Deferred status to an application, and review it later. This makes it easier to identify any new Unmanaged applications that appear, so that you can manage by exception.
Suite	Displays Yes if this application is a suite (that is, contains child applications), and otherwise No. Remember that a non-suite (has no children) may itself be a member of a suite. For example, Adobe Creative Suite is a suite, Adobe Photoshop is not, and Photoshop can be a member of Creative Suite. Editable in the Suite and member section of the Evidence tab in the application properties.
Usage	The count of devices on which inventory shows that usage tracking is turned on, and the application has been used. Tip: This is the number of devices showing usage in the Devices tab of the application properties, and is filtered by the thresholds set in the Usage tab of the same application properties. Devices where applications are opened less often, or for shorter times, than specified there are not counted here; but for usage tracked in Flexera inventory, may be checked in the Raw Software Usage page (where no thresholds apply). This data is read-only.
Version	The release number (or release identifier) of an application. Tip: You can edit this on the General tab of the application properties when Local is displayed in the Source column (which means the application was added manually by an operator).
